ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan Athletic Department announced Friday (Jan. 18) that the formal Crisler Center dedication, the Hall of Honor induction ceremony and numerous other events will take place the weekend of Feb. 15-17.
The weekend will get started with the "Return to Crisler" event on Friday, Feb. 15, starting at 6:30 p.m. This special evening will challenge the old adage that "you can't go home again." Former Wolverine football player and Heisman Trophy winner Desmond Howard will host the event, which will feature basketball greats Cazzie Russell, Diane Dietz and Glen Rice discussing their time at Michigan and what being a Wolverine has meant to their success.
An announcement will be forthcoming regarding a special musical entertainer as part of the "Return to Crisler" event. Audience members will also be given the opportunity to ask questions of the three basketball greats. "Return to Crisler" is open to special invited guests, former men's and women's basketball players, Hall of Honor members, and men's and women's basketball season ticket holders.
Saturday, Feb. 16, will begin with breakfast and Crisler Center tours for former basketball letterwinners from 9:30-11 a.m. The women's basketball program will host in-state rival Michigan State at Crisler Center at noon. Tickets to the game are available at MGoBlue.com/tickets.
The Hall of Honor induction ceremony welcoming the Class of 2012 will be held at the William Davidson Player Development Center on Saturday night, with a reception beginning at 6:30 p.m. The invitation-only event will be hosted by Michigan graduate and media personality Dana Jacobson. The athletic department will formally induct swimmer Gustavo Borges, ice hockey player Brendan Morrison and the late football standout Rob Lytle into the Hall of Honor, bringing the Hall's membership to 202.
The weekend will conclude Sunday, Feb. 17, with former men's and women's basketball players invited to a tailgate brunch in the Jack Roth Stadium Club prior to the men's basketball game against Penn State at noon. Prior to tipoff, the athletic department will have a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony for Crisler Center. The Hall of Honor class will also be recognized at halftime as will all former men's basketball players in attendance. A very limited number of tickets are available for purchase at MGoBlue.com/tickets.
