ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will unveil a new initiative at this weekend's home sporting events on the Athletic Campus. Student-athletes from football, men's lacrosse and softball will wear the maize shoelaces at home sporting events this weekend (April 14-15). Football (Spring Game, noon) and men's lacrosse (Ohio State, 2:30 p.m.) compete at Michigan Stadium on Saturday (April 14), while softball (Michigan State - doubleheader, 1 p.m.) plays Sunday (April 15).
"Our goal as student-athletes is to give back to our university community," said Brandon Zeerip, a member of the U-M wrestling team and SAAC. "We want to contribute to a worthy cause so that we can emphasize the importance of appreciation and giving back."
The "Lace Up for Michigan" campaign was created by and will be led by student-athletes. The goal is to gain full support from the entire student body at Michigan and the greater Michigan community. Proceeds from the program will go to a charitable fund selected yearly by student-athletes.
Fans can purchase the maize shoelaces at local M-Den retail locations and at Michigan Stadium for $7.95 a pair.
