LUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas Tech University announced today (Friday, April 29) that University of Michigan senior associate athletic director Joe Parker has been appointed the deputy athletics director for the Red Raiders. Parker will assume the role of chief operating officer and be the second in command to director of athletics Kirby Hocutt. Parker's last day at Michigan will be May 20.
"Joe has been an integral part of Michigan Athletics for the past eight years," said director of athletics Dave Brandon. "He helped us reach many development goals during his tenure, including several key capital projects. Joe and his team were responsible for marketing the club seats and suites at Michigan Stadium."
During Parker's tenure, he has helped with many key initiatives including development, corporate relations, ticket operations and other external operations. Parker's team raised more than $193 million during for scholarships, capital projects and endowments.
Prior to returning to his alma mater, Parker served in key external and administrative roles at the University of Oklahoma, Washington State University and the University of Texas. Parker earned his bachelor's degree in economics from Michigan in 1987 and added a master's in business administration from Texas in 1994. He was an All-America swimmer at U-M and was captain of the 1987 team that claimed the Big Ten championship.
"This is another step toward Joe's career goal of becoming an athletic director," added Brandon. "We thank Joe for his service both as an administrator and student-athlete at Michigan, and we wish Joe, Jennie and their children all the best in the future."
Brandon will immediately begin a national search for a new leader of the Michigan Athletics development team.
