ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The Michigan Business and Professional Association announced Wednesday (Sept. 25) that the University of Michigan Athletic Department has been named to "Metropolitan Detroit's 101 Best and Brightest Places to Work For."

"Earning this prestigious recognition for the second straight year is very meaningful for our department because one of our guiding principles is 'We are a great place to work'," said Dave Brandon, the Donald R. Shepherd Director of Athletics. "We work extremely hard to create a high-performance culture where everyone feels a connection to the 900-plus student-athletes and their job while developing their careers. The credit goes to all of our team members who relentlessly strive to make Michigan Athletics the leaders and best in every way!"

Hundreds of companies throughout Metropolitan Detroit annually vie for the "101 Best and Brightest" designation, but only those companies with the highest quality human resources initiative receive the recognition. Michigan Athletics will be honored by the Michigan Business and Professional Association (MBPA) along with the 100 other companies on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at The Henry in Dearborn, Mich.

An independent research firm evaluates each company's entry based on key measures in various categories. They include Compensation, Benefits and Employee Solutions; Employee Enrichment, Engagement and Retention; Employee Education and Development; Recruitment, Selection and Orientation; Employee Achievement and Recognition; Communication and Shared Vision; Diversity and Inclusion; Work-Life Balance; Community Initiatives; Strategic Company Performance and the Best of the Best Small Business.

The winning 101 companies also compete for 11 elite awards, one granted for each category. Also, an overall winner that has excelled in all categories will be honored with a "Best of the Best Overall" award. The elite award winners will be revealed during the luncheon.

In addition to the athletic department, the University of Michigan Health System also received recognition on the "101 Best and Brightest" list.
