LIVONIA, Mich. -- The University of Michigan Athletic Department was recognized as one of the elite companies to work for in Michigan, earning the Detroit Free Press 2012 Top Workplaces Award. The announcement came at the awards breakfast recently held at Laurel Manor in Livonia. In addition, the U-M Athletic Department was selected as the ninth-best midsize work place in Michigan.
This is the second workforce award received this fall by the athletic department. Michigan was named one of the 101 Best and Brightest Places to Work in Metro Detroit.
"It's great to be recognized for having a high-performing workplace," said Kristin Orlowski, the department's chief talent officer. "We strive every day to make Michigan Athletics the leaders and best in every way! Everyone associated with Michigan Athletics works hard on a daily basis to foster a positive work place culture that our student-athletes, fans and team members can be proud of and enjoy. We will work to maintain this status and we look forward to doing greater things in the future."
Top Workplaces determines the best places to work in Michigan based on the opinions and input of workers at participating employers. The survey rated how employees felt about their organization in six areas: Connection, Direction, Execution, My Work, My Manager and My Pay and Benefits.
Each organization was judged on five additional categories that were submitted: Organizational Description, Benefits, Local Community Support, Recent Events and Interesting Facts.
The Detroit Free Press received more than 1,000 nominations from companies in southeast Michigan.
