Sandoval Promoted to Head Strength and Conditioning Coach

Bo Sandoval is in his fourth year at U-M. Prior to being named Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning in summer of 2012, he served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for Olympic Sports at the University of Michigan. Sandoval designs and implements supplemental performance programs for men's lacrosse and women's basketball. He specializes in providing comprehensive training programs focused on multi-year development. Sandoval's individualized training programs are influenced by the requirements of each athlete's specific competition needs and are based on each team's competition calendar. Sandoval's other responsibilities include directing the strength and conditioning department's intern education program.

Prior to joining the Michigan staff, Sandoval was the strength and conditioning coordinator at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., from 2007 through Sept. 2009. While at the OTC, he oversaw the daily operations of the strength and conditioning facility along with developing training programs for numerous Olympic Sports. This includes national and world team members from volleyball, tae kwon do, judo, wrestling, boxing, fencing, figure skating, marathon, modern pentathlon, synchronized swimming and men's gymnastics.

Sandoval spent three seasons (2005-07) as the head strength and conditioning coach for Belhaven University (formerly Belhaven College) in Jackson, Miss. He directed strength and conditioning programs for all 16 varsity sports, including football, baseball and basketball. While in Jackson, Sandoval also taught courses such as "Intro to Resistance Training" and "Program Design for Resistance Training." He received his bachelors of science and masters of science degrees in exercise science from the University of Southern Mississippi. Sandoval was an intern in the strength and conditioning department throughout his undergraduate years before being offered a graduate assistantship in 2003. He served as a graduate assistant from 2003-2005.

Sandoval is a certified strength and conditioning coach through the Collegiate Strength Coaches Association as well as a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength & Conditioning Association. He is a level two senior coach with United States Weightlifting. Sandoval was awarded the Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach by the NSCA, which recognizes the professional achievement and competence of Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists via a formalized assessment of their practical/applied employment experience. Sandoval is also certified in first aid, CPR, and basic life support through the American Red Cross.

Sandoval was born in Lubbock, Texas, and raised in Baton Rouge, La. He resides in Ann Arbor with his wife, 2012 Olympic Alternate (Weightlifting), Amanda Hubbard Sandoval, and their two dogs, Hank and Cash.
