FULLERTON, Calif. -- The University of Michigan softball team fell to No. 2 UCLA 8-0 in five innings, in its Judi Garman Classic -- and spring break -- finale on Saturday (March 4) at CSU Fullerton's Anderson Family Field. The Wolverines wrapped up the Garman Classic with a 3-2 record over three days.

UCLA (21-1) built its lead steadily and plated multiple runs in the first, fourth and fifth frames to push into run-rule territory. The Bruins led off the third and fifth with solo homers, following with runs on a wild pitch and RBI single to close out scoring in the latter.

Junior right-handed pitcher Jessica LeBeau (5-5) took the loss from the circle, striking out one while allowing five runs on eight hits and a walk over 3.2 innings. Sophomore RHP Emerson Aiken threw the final 1.1 frames.

Michigan (10-10) put three runners on base with its greatest threat coming on a walk and single from freshman designated player Maddie Erickson with two outs in the fifth.

The Wolverines will kick off the home portion of its 2023 schedule against Georgia Southern and Kent State next weekend at the Wilpon Complex, home of Alumni Field. U-M will open play with a 4:30 p.m. game on Friday (March 10), continue at 11 a.m. against GSU and 1:30 p.m. against Kent State on Saturday (March 11) and wrap up with a 2 p.m. slate against Kent State on Sunday (March 12).
