ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Kali Burrell's first career brace helped the University of Michigan women's soccer team earn a 2-2 draw against Indiana on Sunday (Oct. 12) afternoon at U-M Soccer Stadium.
The Wolverines (5-7-3, 2-3-3 Big Ten) trailed 2-0 in the second half, but Burrell mounted a one-woman comeback with goals in the 61st and 82nd minutes to help U-M secure a league point against the Hoosiers.
Michigan outshot its opponent for the second straight match, registering 15 shots to Indiana's eight (4-4-5, 1-2-4 Big Ten). Ten of U-M's 15 attempts came in the second half, including the final four shots on target over the last 20 minutes of play.
Senior defender Aniyah League picked up her first career point with a secondary assist on Burrell's opening goal. Sophomore midfielder Adi Walick earned the primary helper and now ranks second in the Big Ten with seven assists this season.
In her first career 90-minute outing, sophomore Elle Ervin matched Burrell with a team-high two shots on goal. Ellie Fife joined Ervin in going the full 90 for the eighth straight game, while Campbell Jewell also played the entire match for the second consecutive outing.
Michigan entered halftime down a goal after an Indiana strike in the 13th minute broke the Wolverines' early momentum. The Hoosiers doubled their advantage just after the break on a counterattack goal that was upheld by VAR review for offsides.
League sparked Michigan's rally in the 61st minute, winning possession at midfield and finding Walick up the middle. Her through ball to Burrell sliced into the Hoosiers' two-goal lead and shifted the match's momentum.
Indiana fired the next three shots as Michigan picked up a pair of yellow cards, but Burrell once again delivered for the Wolverines in the 82nd minute, slotting home a cross from Jenna Lang to even the score.
U-M nearly completed the comeback in the closing moments, as Lang drew a free kick with two minutes left. Gabrielle Prych took the ensuing shot but could not get enough power behind it, sealing the 2-2 draw in Ann Arbor.
Michigan will play its final two road matches of the regular season next week, beginning Thursday (Oct. 16) at Maryland at 7 p.m.
