ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The defending NCA champion University of Michigan cheer team announced Thursday (March 13) that it will perform its 2014 nationals routine during a special "Friends and Family" performance slated for Sunday, April 6, at Cliff Keen Arena. The performance will begin at 1 p.m., and admission is free.
Head coach Pam St. John and the 24 members of the nationals team have been working on the routine since September in preparation for their title defense. This will be the team's final opportunity to perfect the routine in front of an audience before nationals.
"It is always exciting to showcase what we have been working on for months," said St. John. "The energy in front of a home crowd will be electric and will be a great way to build momentum toward Daytona. This is a dedicated group of student-athletes that is hungry to compete among the best."
The nationals routine is action-packed, with an impressive display of athleticism. Michigan's coaching staff created the elements along with a professional choreographer. The non-stop intensity is a trademark of U-M's squad.
The Friends and Family performance will also include introductions of the 2013-14 cheer team and a meet-and-greet with autographs and photo opportunities afterward. Following the show, final tryouts for the 2014-15 squad will take place.
The team will travel to the National Cheerleaders Association Collegiate Cheer Championship April 9-12 in Dayton Beach, Fla.
