The Wolverines are 0-3-1 in the four-game series against the Mets, owned by former Wolverine pitcher Fred Wilpon (1956), including a 4-4 tie in 2008, an 18-7 loss in 2009 and an 8-1 loss in 2010.
Michigan outhit the Mets, 8-7. It marked only the second time in seven games in 2013 that the Wolverines have held that edge. U-M outhit Fordham, 13-5, in a 10-2 win Saturday (Feb. 23).
Senior captain CF Patrick Biondi, who is hitting .348 (8-for-23), was 2-for-4 with a double, a stolen base and a run scored as he reached base three times.
Biondi was the lone Wolverine with a multiple-hit game as he was making his second career start vs. the Mets. Biondi was 0-for-4 as a freshman in 2010.
Senior/junior DH John DiLaura, who is hitting .750 (3-for-4), made his season debut in the doubleheader vs. Fordham on Saturday (Feb. 23). DiLaura was 0-for-1 with two walks today, and he has reached base nine times in 11 at-bats in the three games he has played.
Freshman 2B/RHP Jacob Cronenworth, who is hitting .250 (6-for-24), was 1-for-4 with a run-scoring triple that tied the score at 2-2 in the third inning. Cronenworth went to the mound in the eighth inning, and he worked a 1-2-3 frame that included a strikeout.
Junior RF Michael O'Neill, who is hitting .429 (12-for-28) to lead the team, was 1-for-5 with a first-inning single, and he scored to give Michigan a 1-0 lead.
Sophomore LF Zach Zott collected a ninth-inning pinch-hit double in his only at-bat.
Sophomore RHP Donnie Eaton retired five of the six batters he faced, allowing a seventh-inning walk while working 1.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
