CARY, N.C. -- UCLA's Cody Poteet struck out 13 in a two-hit, complete-game performance as the Bruins shut out the University of Michigan baseball team, 5-0, Sunday afternoon (March 2) to conclude play at the USA Baseball-Irish Classic at Coleman Field at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.

Poteet had a strikeout in every inning for UCLA. Michigan's hits occurred in the second inning on a two-out single from senior/junior Kendall Patrick (Mitchell, S.D./Blackhawk College) and a two-out double in the ninth by junior Jackson Glines (Coarsegold, Calif./Fresno City College). Poteet did not walk a batter in facing two batters over the minimum.

A two-run double from Justin Hazard in the second and an RBI base hit by Shane Zeile in the third gave the Bruins an early cushion. UCLA took a 4-0 lead in the fifth on Zeile's single through the right side that scored an unearned run. The Bruins tacked on a run in the sixth via a Chris Keck single.

Sophomore Evan Hill (Mt. Pleasant, Mich./Mt. Pleasant) was tagged with the loss, allowing 10 hits and four earned runs with four strikeouts in 5.1 innings pitched. Michigan's bullpen did not allow a hit in the final 3.2 innings pitched.

Michigan will continue its spring break trip Tuesday afternoon (March 4) against Florida Gulf Coast. First pitch at Swanson Stadium in Fort Myers, Fla., is scheduled for 2 p.m.
