SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The University of Michigan baseball team fell to Saint Louis, 9-5, in its second game of the USD Tournament Saturday morning (March 9) at Fowler Park.

Saint Louis scored three runs in the first two innings of play with the help of four walks and an error, but senior/junior Logan McAnallen (DeWitt, Mich./DeWitt) got out of a no-out, bases-loaded jam in the third with a pair of strikeouts and a flyout. Michigan then came back in the bottom of the third to score two runs. Sophomore Dylan Delaney (Woodland Hills, Calif./Chaminade) led off the inning with a double over the leftfielder's head. He went to third on a perfect bunt single from senior Patrick Biondi (Woodhaven, Mich./Divine Child) and scored on a sacrifice fly from junior Michael O'Neill (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty). Biondi trotted home on a triple to the gap in rightfield by freshman Travis Maezes (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer).

Saint Louis scored three runs in the top of the fifth, but the Wolverines answered with a pair in the bottom of the inning. O'Neill doubled down the leftfield line with one out. He went to third as Maezes singled and scored on a sacrifice fly from freshman Jacob Cronenworth (St. Clair, Mich./St. Clair). Maezes went to second as sophomore Kyle Jusick (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) singled and scored on a double to right field by sophomore Kevin White (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's-Belfield). The Billikens jumped out to a 9-4 lead in the top of the sixth on a three-run home run by CJ Rose.

The Maize and Blue put up a run in the seventh as O'Neill doubled, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Maezes groundout to second.

Four Wolverines (Biondi, O'Neill, Maezes and White) had two hits apiece, while Maezes drove in a pair. O'Neill scored two runs and reached base three times. Sophomore James Bourque (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) took the loss, allowing two earned runs and two hits with four walks in 1.2 innings. McAnallen struck out five, while freshman Alex Daar (Clinton Twp., Mich./University Liggett) and fifth-year senior Chad Jasman (Bay City, Mich./Western) combined for five strikeouts in relief.

Michigan concludes its Spring Break trip with two games at the USD Tournament on Sunday (March 10). Michigan faces Holy Cross 45 minutes after the Saint Louis-Holy Cross game, which starts at 9 a.m. PDT. The Wolverines will then face San Diego 45 minutes after their matchup with Holy Cross.
