MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The University of Michigan baseball team gave up four runs in the first three innings and managed just six hits and two late runs in a 6-2 loss at Coastal Carolina Saturday afternoon (March 16) on the second day of the Chanticleer Classic at TicketReturn.com Field.

The Chanticleers put up a single run in the second on a sacrifice fly from Zach Remillard. The big inning for CCU occurred in the third. Back-to-back singles by the Chants led to a two-run double from Will Remillard. Remillard scored on a sacrifice fly from Tyler Chadwick. Michigan loaded the bases in the top of the third on a single from sophomore Kyle Jusick (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) and two walks, but a pop out to third ended the threat.

Coastal added insurance with runs in the fifth and sixth. Michigan was held scoreless until the top of the ninth. Freshman Jack Sexton (Goldens Bridge, N.Y./Fordham Prep) led off the inning with a double to the gap in right. The Wolverines loaded the bases as sophomore Zach Zott (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion) and senior/junior Zach Johnson (Grandville, Mich./Grandville) both walked off CCU reliever Ryan Connolly. With two outs, Connolly hit freshman Travis Maezes (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer), forcing in a run. Freshman Jacob Cronenworth (St. Clair, Mich./St. Clair) then reached on an infield single, scoring Zott, but Jusick grounded to second to end the game.

Jusick, Sexton and Cronenworth had two hits apiece, accounting for all six Michigan hits. The loss on the mound went to freshman Evan Hill (Mt. Pleasant, Mich./Mt. Pleasant), who gave up five runs and nine hits in 4.1 innings pitched. Sophomore Trent Szkutnik (Temperance, Mich./Bedford) pitched the final 3.2 innings, allowing an unearned run and five hits with a strikeout and a walk.

Michigan will conclude the Chanticleer Classic on Sunday morning (March 17) against Akron. First pitch at TicketReturn.com Field is scheduled for 11 a.m.
