Freshman 1B Jack Sexton, who is hitting .171 (7-for-41), collected the first multi-hit game of his U-M career, going 2-for-4 with a single, a double and a run scored. The double, his first career extra-base hit as a Wolverine, opened the ninth inning, and he scored with two outs to break up the shutout bid.
Freshman 2B/RHP Jacob Cronenworth, who is hitting .317 (20-for-63), was 2-for-5 with two single, a stolen base and his team-leading 17th RBI. He has hits in both games this weekend vs. Coastal Carolina and has five multi-hit games for the season. He has six stolen bases.
Sophomore RF Kyle Jusick, who is hitting .333 (16-for-48), was 2-for-5 with two singles. Jusick has five multi-hit games of 2013.
Freshman SS Travis Maezes, who is hitting .306 (19-for-62), was 0-for-2 but reached base three times with two walks, and he broke up the shutout bid with a bases-loaded HBP with two outs in the ninth inning. Maezes is the lone Wolverine to reach base in all 17 games this season. Maezes has been hit by a pitch eight times this season to lead the team.
Junior OF Michael O'Neill, who is hitting .403 (31-for-77) to lead the team, was 0-for-5, snapping his hitting streak at 20 games a streak that had included the final four games of 2012.
Sophomore LHP Trent Szkutnik (2-2, 5.31 ERA) pitched 3.2 innings out of the bullpen, allowing five hits and an unearned run as he kept the team in the game, allowing U-M to get the tying run to the plate in the top of the ninth inning.
Szkutnik, who has won back-to-back starts, leads the Wolverines with 17 strikeouts, and he is second on the team in innings pitched (20.1).
