Senior catcher/DH Coley Crank, who is hitting .197 (12-for-61), was 1-for-4 in Saturday's opener vs. UAB with a ninth-inning homer to snap a 1-1 tie. Crank's home run was his fourth of the season and it proved to be the game-winning run batted in. He was 0-for-3 with a walk in the second game.
Crank's 'gamer' was his second of the season and he is Michigan's active career leader in game-winning RBI with 10. Crank has 13 RBI this season and 121 in his U-M career.
Crank, with 27 homers, snapped his tie for 11th on Michigan's career home run list with Major League Hall of Famer Barry Larkin (26 homers, 1983-85) and former teammate Mike Dufek (26, 2007-2010). Crank is one homer shy of a 10th place tie with Jake Fox (28 homers, 2001-03).
Junior co-captain CF/2B Patrick Biondi, who is hitting .243 (17-for-70), was 2-for-3 with a triple and a run scored in Saturday's opener vs. UAB while batting ninth in U-M's lineup for the first time in his career. Biondi was 1-for-3 with a walk Saturday night at Coastal Carolina.
Biondi, who has five multi-hit games this season and 44 for his U-M career, has scored 16 times this season and has scored 121 runs in 130 games in his Wolverine career.
Senior co-captain 3B John Lorenz, who is hitting .219 (16-for-73), was 2-for-4 with a double Saturday night vs. Coastal Carolina for his fifth multi-hit game of the season.
Lorenz, who has 42 career multi-hit games, has four doubles this season and 37 in 178 games in his U-M career.
Junior RHP Ben Ballantine (1-0, 1.87 ERA) allowed one run on two hits with four strikeouts as he pitched seven innings in a no-decision start in Saturday's opener vs. UAB in Coastal Carolina Classic action. Ballantine, who is 4-1 in his career at U-M, leads the team in innings pitched (33.2) and strikeouts (22).
Freshman RHP Matt Ogden (1-1, 5.40 ERA) pitched two scoreless innings, allowing two hits while recording three strikeouts as he earned his first win as a Wolverine Saturday afternoon vs. UAB. Ogden has 10 strikeouts in his 10 innings of work in five appearances out of the bullpen this season.
Freshman SS Dylan Delaney, who is hitting .172 (10-for-58), had a hit in each game Saturday in Coastal Carolina Classic action. He was 1-for-4 with a single vs. UAB and he was 1-for-2 with a run-scoring double and a HBP vs. Coastal Carolina in the second game.
Freshman 2B Eric Jacobson, who is hitting .214 (3-for-14), was 1-for-4 with a double in Saturday's first game vs. UAB. The double was Jacobson's first extra-base hit as a Wolverine.
Sophomore catcher Cole Martin, who is hitting .243 (9-for-37), was 2-for-4 with a run-scoring single vs. Coastal Carolina in Saturday's second game to extend his hitting streak to four games, matching his previous career best set in 2011. Martin has one multi-hit game this season and four in his U-M career.
Junior/sophomore 2B/3B John DiLaura, who is hitting .452 (14-for-31), was 0-for-3 vs. UAB in Saturday's first game, snapping his personal career-best hitting streak at eight games. He was 0-for-4 vs. Coastal Carolina in Saturday's second game.
