The loss snapped U-M head coach Rich Maloney's winning streak in home openers at eight. He is 8-1 in his nine home openers as head coach starting in 2003.
The loss snapped U-M's winning streak at three games, the longest winning streak since a three-game streak in May 2010. Michigan is 6-13 for the first time since a 6-13 start in 1996. U-M was 6-13-1 in 2000.
Freshman RF Michael O'Neill, who is hitting .355 (27-for-76), collected the first Wolverine hit in Ray Fisher Stadium in 2011 with a first-inning single. O'Neill has hits in 18 of his 19 games this season. O'Neill collected his team-leading 11th stolen base in the first inning.
Junior/sophomore 2B/OF Kevin Krantz was 2-for-4 with a run-scoring single that gave U-M a 3-1 lead in the second inning. Krantz has three career multi-hit games.
Junior 3B John Lorenz, who is hitting .280 (21-for-75) for the season, was 1-for-3 with a walk Friday to extend his hitting streak to seven games. He has hits in 16 of the 18 games he has had an at-bat in this season. He has hits in 30 of his last 32 games over the past two seasons.
Senior co-captain 2B/SS Anthony Toth, who is hitting .274 (20-for-73), was 2-for-5. Toth has hits in 18 of his last 22 games. Toth has 45 career multi-hit games.
