Michigan collected its eighth straight home-opening win for U-M head coach Rich Maloney in his eight seasons and the second straight home-opening win against IPFW.
U-M holds a 6-0 edge in the all-time series with IPFW.
Senior RHP Alan Oaks is the only member of U-M's current roster to start in four consecutive home openers after starting in rightfield in 2007 and 2008 and as the designated hitter in 2009 before earning the start on the mound today.
Sophomore DH Coley Crank launched U-M's first 'home homer' of the season in Fisher Stadium in the Wilpon Baseball Complex with a his two-run shot in the third inning. Crank extended his career-best hitting streak to eight games.
Senior 1B Mike Dufek extended his team-leading hitting streak to nine games as he collected his ninth multi-hit game this season.
Senior RF Nick Urban's second-inning double gave U-M a 1-0 lead and proved to be his first game-winning RBI of the season and his fifth career gamer as a Wolverine.
Freshman OF Patrick Biondi went 2-for-5 in his first career start at Fisher Stadium, giving him hits in 16 of U-M's 19 games this season.
