YPSILANTI, Mich. -- The University of Michigan baseball team fell, 12-2, to Eastern Michigan Wednesday afternoon (March 28) at Oestrike Stadium, snapping U-M's three-game winning streak. Despite three hits from junior Patrick Biondi (Woodhaven, Mich./Divine Child) and a pair of runs batted in from freshman Will Drake (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield), Eastern Michigan jumped out to a 10-0 lead and never looked back.

The Eagles plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, then scored five in the fourth, highlighted by a three-run triple from Brent Ohrman. A two-run single from Lee Longo made it 10-0 Eagles in the fifth.

Michigan scored a run in the seventh as Biondi doubled down the right field line and scored on a two-out single by Drake. Eastern answered with two runs in the bottom of the seventh as Jamie Simpson brought in a run on a sacrifice fly and Sam Ott scored on a wild pitch.

The Maize and Blue ended the scoring with a run in the ninth. Freshman Dylan Delaney (Woodland Hills, Calif./Chaminade) and Biondi led off the inning with back-to-back singles. Both runners moved up on a groundout by freshman Zach Zott (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion) and Delaney scored on a Drake infield single.

Freshman James Bourque (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) was tagged with the loss, allowing four hits and four runs with four walks in 3.1 innings pitched. Junior/sophomore Logan McAnallen (DeWitt, Mich./DeWitt) and sophomore/freshman Jay Perry (Royal Oak, Mich./U of D Jesuit) had a strikeout apiece in scoreless performances. Collin Taylor earned the win in relief for EMU, striking out four in 2.1 innings pitched.

Simpson, Longo and Ohrman had three RBI apiece, while Bo Kinder was 3-for-5 for the Eagles.

Michigan started Big Ten play this Friday (March 30) at Minnesota. First pitch from the Metrodome is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. CDT.



N O T E S

• Junior co-captain CF/2B Patrick Biondi, who is hitting .323 (30-for-93), was 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored as he extended his hitting streak to eight games.

• Biondi, who has nine multi-hits games this season and 48 for his U-M career, has scored a team-leading total of 24 times this season and has scored 129 runs in 136 games in his Wolverine career.

• Freshman LF Will Drake, who is hitting .333 (32-for-96), was 2-for-4 with two RBI as he extended his hitting streak to five games. Drake has nine multi-hit games this season.

• Senior co-captain 3B John Lorenz, who is hitting .242 (23-for-95), was 1-for-4 with a double. Lorenz has six doubles this season and 39 in his U-M career.
