ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan baseball team shut out Bowling Green, 2-0, Tuesday afternoon (April 2) at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium. The Maize and Blue recorded its second shutout of the season after putting up a pair of runs in the first two innings.
Michigan used two-out magic for a run in the first. Junior Michael O'Neill (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) reached on a bunt single, stole second and scored on sophomore Zach Zott's (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion) single. In the second, sophomore Dylan Delaney (Woodland Hills, Calif./Chaminade) and junior Cole Martin (Bay City, Mich./John Glenn) both walked with two outs. Delaney came around to score as freshman Travis Maezes (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) reached and advanced to second on a pair of Falcon errors.
Sophomore Matt Ogden (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill) earned the win in relief, striking out four in 3.2 innings, allowing three hits and walking just one. Senior Ben Ballantine (Napa, Calif./Napa) went the first 2.1 innings, striking out three before leaving to injury. Senior Kyle Clark (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) pitched two hitless innings of relief, and freshman Jacob Cronenworth (St. Clair, Mich./St. Clair) earned his fourth save of the season, allowing two hits and no runs in the ninth.
Zott had two of Michigan's seven hits on the day and drove in a run.
