Friday's win over Penn State was the seventh straight win for the Wolverines, the best since a nine-game streak in 2010.
Junior OF Michael O'Neill, who is hitting .358 (49-for-137), was 2-for-4 with a two-out, run-scoring single that tied the game in the eighth inning. O'Neill also collected his team-leading 12th double of the season and his team-leading 13th stolen base of the year in the series opener vs. PSU. O'Neill has 32 career doubles at U-M.
O'Neill leads the team with a personal career-best 18 multi-hit games this season and he has 50 career multiple-hit games.
O'Neill has hits in 26 of the 32 games this season and in 30 of his last 36 games in the past two seasons.
O'Neill's stolen base vs. Penn State Friday was his 13th of the season and he ranks fifth on Michigan's career stolen base list with 62. Steve Finken (1986-88) is fourth on the list with 65 steals.
Sophomore LHP Trent Szkutnik (3-4, 3.59 ERA) pitched 6.2 innings allowing six hits and one run while striking out a career-best 12 batters in a no-decision start. Szkutnik, who leads U-M with 40 strikeouts this season, allowed the lone PSU run after two outs in the seventh inning. He left the game with PSU leading 1-0.
Sophomore OF/DH Zach Zott, who is hitting .325 (26-for-80), was 1-for-4 with a run-scoring single and his 10th stolen base of the season. Zott is hitting .423 (11-for-26) in Big Ten play to lead the Wolverines.
Sophomore RHP Matt Ogden (4-0, 2.36 ERA, one save) pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, allowing two hits as he recorded his fourth win of the season. He has a win and a save (at Notre Dame) in U-M's two wins this week.
Ogden (7-4) has seven career wins in his 11 decisions in 31 career appearances (two starts) as a Wolverine.
Sophomore RF Kevin White, who is hitting .253 (23-for-91) was 1-for-3 with a two-run double and a walk.
Senior captain CF Patrick Biondi, who is hitting .360 (27-for-75), went 1-for-3 with a single, a walk and a run scored. Biondi has hits in 35 of his last 41 games.
Biondi scored one run, giving him 21 runs scored in 2013 to push his career total to 170 runs, He ranks sixth on Michigan's career runs scored list. Hall of Famer Barry Larkin (172 runs, 1983-85) and U-M career hit leader Mike Cervenak (172 runs, 1996-99) are tied for fourth. Phil Price (175 runs scored,1987-90) ranks third.
Freshman 3B/RHP Jacob Cronenworth, who is hitting .331 (39-for-118), was 0-for-3 to snap his hitting streak at 16 games, but he drew a walk and scored a run in U-M's eighth-inning game-winning rally.
Cronenworth (0-1, 1.12 ERA, five saves) worked a '1-2-3' ninth inning with one strikeout to close out Friday's 5-1 win over PSU in a non-save situation. Cronenworth has 15 strikeouts in his 16 innings of work in his 11 appearances in relief this season.
