CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- The University of Michigan baseball team scored six runs in the seventh inning en route to an 11-4 victory at Illinois on Sunday afternoon (April 18) at Illinois Field. With the win, the Wolverines clinched their third straight Big Ten series triumph.

Junior pitcher Tyler Burgoon (Defiance, Ohio/Defiance) threw 5.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen, striking out seven Fighting Illini. Sophomore pitcher Brandon Sinnery (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Academy) went 2.2 innings in the start, yielding three unearned runs.

Junior outfielder Ryan LaMarre (Jackson, Mich./Lumen Christi) and freshman centerfielder Patrick Biondi (Woodhaven, Mich./Divine Child) had three hits and two runs batted in apiece to pace the Wolverines. Biondi reached based all five times to the plate, walking twice and coming up a home run shy of the cycle.

Michigan scored runs in each of the first three innings to build an early lead. In the first, LaMarre blasted a ball off the third baseman's glove and into leftfield, scoring Biondi from second. Senior first baseman Mike Dufek (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain) took advantage of a two-base error to lead off the second inning to setup freshman shortstop Derek Dennis' (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Central) RBI sacrifice fly. The string continued in the third as LaMarre tripled and scored on a sharply hit single off the bat of senior catcher Chris Berset (Vienna, Va./Heights School). The offense on both sides quieted down for the middle innings after the Illini put three on the board in the third frame.

U-M broke the silence in the seventh with a six-run frame. Berset got things started with another run-scoring single, plating LaMarre from second base. Dufek and senior leftfielder Mike Kittle (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) made it aboard to load the bases for sophomore third baseman John Lorenz (Frankfurt, Ill./Lincoln-Way East), who laced a ball into the leftfield corner for a two-run double. Dennis sacrificed via the fly ball again and Biondi tripled to the wall in left centerfield for an RBI, before LaMarre came up for the second time and singled in a run to give the Wolverines a 9-3 lead.

Biondi and senior/junior second baseman Anthony Toth (Lorain, Ohio/St. Ignatius) added insurance runs in the ninth. Biondi doubled into the leftfield corner to score Dennis from first and then cruised home on a hard hit ball past the shortstop by Toth.

Michigan welcomes Notre Dame for the first half of a home-and-home series on Tuesday (April 20) at 6:35 p.m. at the Wilpon Baseball Complex. The game will be available on BigTenNetwork.com (video, fee) and MGoBlue All-Access (audio, free).
