April 21, 2010
Tonight's game was the first played by the Wolverines and Notre Dame in Ann Arbor, Mich., since an 8-3 U-M win on April, 21, 1977.
Senior/junior 2B Anthony Toth's run-scoring single in the third inning gave Michigan a 1-0 lead and proved to be his fifth career game-winning RBI. Toth shares the team lead with four "gamers" this season with sophomore C/DH Coley Crank.
Senior LHP Eric Katzman pitched five innings, allowing four hits and one run as a starter as he earned his third win of the season in the win over Notre Dame. Katzman has allowed just one run in his last 10 innings, collecting wins over Toledo and Notre Dame. Katzman moved his career record to 15-8 as a Wolverine.
Sophomore DH Coley Crank was 2-for-2 with a walk and a hit by a pitch, giving him 14 multi-hit games this season and 17 for his career.
Senior C Chris Berset's fifth-inning single extended his career-best hitting streak to a team-best 20 games. Berset's hitting streak is the best for a Wolverine since Eric Rose had a 28-game streak on 2007.
Senior 1B Mike Dufek notched his team-leading 15th double of the season.
Junior OF Ryan LaMarre was 0-for-4, snapping his 15-game hitting streak. The streak had included the final three games of 2009 and his first 12 starts this season.
Freshman OF Patrick Biondi was 1-for-4, extending his current hitting streak to four games. Biondi leads the team in hits (55), runs scored (48) and stolen bases (23).
