Former Wolverines at Fisher Stadium on Friday included All-American CF Rick Leach (1976-79) and CF Steve Buerkel (1989-92). Buerkel, a two-time team batting champ (1991 and 1992), wore jersey 16 as a Wolverine -- the number that will be retired for All-American SS Barry Larkin (1983-85) on May 1 against Ohio State.
Sophomore DH Coley Crank was 3-for-4 with his team-leading seventh homer of the season in the second game. Crank has 16 multi-hit games this season and 19 for his career.
Junior OF Ryan LaMarre was 1-for-3 with a sac fly in the opener and 3-for-4 with a double and a triple in the night cap as he extended his Big Ten only hitting streak to eight games. LaMarre is hitting .588 (20-for-34) in conference action.
LaMarre, who has hits in 18 of his last 19 games in overall action, collected his 10th multi-hit game this season and the 40th in his U-M career. LaMarre has five three-hit games in Big Ten play this season.
Senior/junior SS Anthony Toth, making his first Big Ten starts at shortstop this season, was 2-for-4 in the opener against the Hawkeyes for his 15th multi-hit game this season and the 34th multiple-hit game in his U-M career.
Senior 2B Mike Kittle was 2-for-4 in the opener and 1-for-3 in the second game and he reached base six times against the Hawkeyes. Kittle has seven multi-hit games this season.
Senior C Chris Berset had his career-best hitting streak snapped at 21 games as he went 0-for-4 in Friday's opener. Berset, who has hits in 22 of his last 23 games, collected a single in the second game.
