YPSILANTI, Mich. -- Senior Patrick Biondi (Woodhaven, Mich./Divine Child) set a Big Ten record with six steals, of the Wolverines' 12 on Tuesday night (April 23), but the University of Michigan baseball team allowed four or more runs in three separate innings in a 15-10 loss to Eastern Michigan at Oestrike Stadium. The Eagles batted around three times, while the two teams combined for 19 walks in the 3:52 contest.

Michigan put up four runs in the top of the first. Biondi and freshman Travis Maezes (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) walked. Both runners moved up 90 feet on a stolen base, and Biondi scored on a groundout from junior Michael O'Neill (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty). Freshman Jacob Cronenworth (St. Clair, Mich./St. Clair) brought in Maezes on a sacrifice fly. A bunt single by sophomore Zach Zott (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion) and a walk to freshman Jack Sexton (Goldens Bridge, N.Y./Fordham Prep) put runners on first and second. Both runners stole a base, and both scored on a single to center by junior Cole Martin (Bay City, Mich./John Glenn). Michigan scored a run in the second as Maezes' sacrifice bunt was thrown away by EMU pitcher Joe Battistelli, allowing sophomore Eric Jacobson (Chicago, Ill./St. Ignatius) to score.

EMU batted around in both the first and second innings, scoring nine runs in the two frames. Eastern took an 11-5 lead in the third on a double to left. Michigan scored twice in the fourth as Biondi singled, stole second and third, the latter his 100th career theft, and scored on an O'Neill infield single. O'Neill went to second on a groundout and scored on an Eagle fielding error.

Eastern batted around in the sixth, scoring four runs in the inning, before Michigan put up two runs in the top of the seventh. O'Neill walked, went to second on a wild pitch and stole third. Cronenworth walked and stole second. O'Neill scored on a Zott groundout, and Cronenworth crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly from Martin.

The Wolverines ended the scoring in the top of the ninth inning as Sexton singled, moved to second on a wild pitch, went to third on a Martin single and scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of sophomore Kevin White (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's-Belfield).

Martin and Biondi had two hits apiece, while Martin drove in three runs. O'Neill added two runs batted in. Sophomore James Bourque (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) took the loss on the mound, allowing six runs and four hits with a strikeout and three walks in one-plus inning of work.

Michigan starts a three-game Big Ten series with No. 17 Indiana this Friday night (April 26) at 6:05 p.m. in Bloomington, Ind.
