ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan baseball team used a four-run fifth inning to salvage the final game in its three-game weekend series with Iowa, winning 7-5 on Saturday afternoon (April 24) at the Wilpon Baseball Complex, home of historic Ray Fisher Stadium.

Junior leftfielder Ryan LaMarre (Jackson, Mich./Lumen Christi) posted a 4-for-4 day at the plate, including his second home run of the season, while senior catcher Chris Berset (Vienna, Va./Heights School) went 2-for-3 and sophomore designated hitter Coley Crank (Pinole, Calif./Pinole Valley) posted a pair of hits and drove in a team-best two runs.

The Wolverines jumped on top early, breaking a scoreless tie on a leadoff home run to right-centerfield in the bottom of the second by senior first baseman Mike Dufek (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain), his second of the season, to give Michigan a 1-0 lead.

Sophomore starting pitcher Brandon Sinnery (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Academy) was the beneficiary of more long ball support in the third when LaMarre belted a solo shot beyond the outfield fence and into the Alumni Field outfield to double the Wolverine lead.

Iowa erased the U-M advantages with single runs in the fourth and fifth to chase Sinnery, who allowed eight hits while striking out one before being lifted in favor of junior reliever Tyler Burgoon (Defiance, Ohio/Defiance).

With the score tied 2-2 in the fifth, the U-M offense awoke with four runs in the bottom of the frame. With two runners aboard, Berset doubled home freshman centerfielder Patrick Biondi (Woodhaven, Mich./Divine Child) from third before Crank followed two batters later with a fly ball to right that alluded a diving Hawkeye and rolled all the way to the fence, plating a pair of Wolverines. A single to center by sophomore third baseman John Lorenz (Frankfurt, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) capped the scoring, giving Michigan a 6-2 lead.

After Iowa responded with a pair of runs in the sixth, cutting the Michigan lead to 6-4, the Wolverines responded with an RBI double from senior/junior second baseman Anthony Toth (Lorain, Ohio/St. Ignatius) that brought home senior rightfielder Nick Urban (Whitehall, Mich./Whitehall) to push the U-M lead to 7-4.

Meanwhile, Burgoon was solid in relief, allowing just four hits while striking out five and scattering three runs en route to his sixth win of the season.

Michigan is back in action next weekend (Fri-Sun., April 30-May 2), hosting Ohio State at the Wilpon Baseball Complex. The first 500 fans at Friday's series opener at 6:35 p.m. will receive a "Grow Your Own Baseball" Kit and fans that bring an old phonebook to recycle will receive a Michigan reusable tote bag.
