With Saturday's loss to Minnesota, Michigan dropped from a three-way tie for eighth place to a tie for ninth with Iowa at 6-11. Indiana and Northwestern are tied for seventh at 7-10 while Penn State is sixth at 8-9.
With two losses in the series with Minnesota, the Wolverines have dropped their fourth series of the season compared to series wins over Illinois and Iowa.
Freshman RF Michael O'Neill, who is hitting .302 (55-for-182) to lead the team, was 4-for-5 with a double and three runs batted in in his second start in the leadoff position in the lineup.
O'Neill, who shares the team with 25 RBI with Coley Crank, has hits in 37 of his 45 games this season and he is second on the team with 13 multi-hit games. He has a pair of four-hit games to lead the Wolverines.
Sophomore SS Derek Dennis, who is hitting .246 (29-for-118), was 3-for-3 with a walk and three runs scored.
Dennis has nine multi-hit games in 2011 and 22 career multi-hit games. He leads the team with five three-hit games this season and he has seven in two seasons.
Sophomore CF Patrick Biondi, who is hitting .285 (55-for-182), was 2-for-5 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored in his debut in the second spot in the batting order. Biondi has scored 100 runs in 102 games in his Wolverine career.
Biondi's two-hit game was his team-leading 14th multi-hit game of the season and he has 35 career multi-hit games.
Freshman 1B Brett Winger, who is hitting .282 (11-for-39), was 2-for-5 with two singles and one RBI while batting fourth in the lineup for the first time in his U-M career. Winger has a career-best three-game hitting streak and he has three multi-hit games.
Junior/sophomore IF/OF Kevin Krantz, who is hitting .222 (30-for-135), was 1-for-4 with a two-run single in the six-run ninth-inning rally. Krantz leads the Wolverines with six multi-RBI games and he is third on the team with 21 RBI.
Junior 3B John Lorenz, who is hitting .237 (41-for-173) for the season, was 1-for-5 with a two-run single in the six-run ninth-inning rally. Lorenz is fourth on the team with 20 RBI.
Freshman OF Adam Robinson was 1-for-4 while making the fourth start of the season and his third-inning single was the first hit of his Wolverine career.
