ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan baseball team fell to Coastal Carolina, 6-1, on Tuesday night (May 8) at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium. The game was the opener of a two-game midweek series between the Wolverines and Chanticleers.

Coastal got on the board first with a pair of runs in the third. Jacob May tripled with one out and scored on a Daniel Bowman single. Bowman stole second and scored on a double.

Michigan scored its run in the bottom of the third. Sophomore Cole Martin (Bay City, Mich./John Glenn) opened the inning with a single and moved to third on a double to right by junior Patrick Biondi (Woodhaven, Mich./Divine Child). Coastal starter Ben Smith walked freshman Kevin White (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's-Belfield) to load the bases. The Chants brought in Ryan Connolly and sophomore Michael O'Neill (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) grounded into a fielder's choice, scoring Martin.

Connolly went the distance after coming in to pitch. He struck out seven in 6.2 innings, allowing only four hits and a walk. Coastal scored a run in the fourth and put up two in the sixth on runs batted in from May and Witten. Alex Buccilli singled home Bowman for Coastal's final run.

White had two hits to lead the Maize and Blue offense. For Coastal, Bowman and Witten had three hits and two doubles apiece. Junior/sophomore Logan McAnallen (DeWitt, Mich./DeWitt) was tagged with the loss, allowing three runs and seven hits with a strikeout and two walks in three innings.
