ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan baseball team scored four runs in the first two innings and the Wolverine pitching staff held Coastal Carolina to just five hits in a 5-2 Wolverine win on Wednesday night (May 9) at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium.

The Maize and Blue jumped on the Chants early, scoring two runs apiece in the first two frames. In the first, freshman Kevin White (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's-Belfield) singled with one out. He went to third on a double from sophomore Michael O'Neill (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) and scored on a sacrifice fly from sophomore Brett Winger (Orlando, Fla./Olympia). Senior Coley Crank (Pinole, Calif./Pinole Valley) then singled to left to bring home O'Neill.

In the second, freshman Will Drake (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) led off the inning with a single. He scored on a double to left by junior/sophomore John DiLaura (Clinton Twp., Mich./Warren DeLa Salle). DiLaura moved to third on the throw and scored on a single from freshman Dylan Delaney (Woodland Hills, Calif./Chaminade) through the right side.

The score remained 4-0 until the bottom of the seventh. O'Neill walked with one out. He stole second, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on Crank's double off the wall in left.

Coastal made it interesting in the top of the ninth with a leadoff single and then a walk. After a fielder's choice put runners on the corners, a fly ball to left that White lost in the sky for a double scored one. A single then made it 5-2. Sophomore Alex Lakatos (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central) got out of the jam with a pair of strikeouts to end the game.

Freshman Matt Ogden (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill) earned the win, pitching five innings of relief and allowing just one hit with a pair of strikeouts and a pair of walks. Senior/junior Bobby Brosnahan (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) pitched the first three innings, allowing only one hit. Lakatos struck out a pair in the ninth inning. The loss was tagged to Coastal's Devin Bradley, who gave up four runs and six hits in 1.1 innings of work.

DiLaura was a perfect 3-for-3 with a run batted in, while Crank went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI. Delaney also was 2-for-2, driving in a run.

Michigan makes the trip to West Lafayette, Ind., for a three-game Big Ten set with No. 15 Purdue. The series starts Friday afternoon (May 11) at 4 p.m. at Lambert Field.
