ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Junior Michael O'Neill (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) laced a one-out single to score sophomore pinch runner Donnie Eaton (Ann Arbor, Mich./Father Gabriel Richard) in the bottom of the eighth inning, breaking an 8-all tie to give the University of Michigan baseball team a 9-8 win over Purdue Friday night (May 10) at the Wilpon Complex.

Purdue had scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning to tie the game at eight, but freshman pinch hitter Jack Sexton (Goldens Bridge, N.Y./Fordham Prep) led off the bottom of the frame by reaching second on a dropped fly ball from the Boilermakers. O'Neill made Purdue pay for the mistake, taking a 1-1 pitch from Brad Schreiber to center to score Eaton.

Purdue put up a four-spot in the top of the second and added a run in the fourth inning, but Michigan started the comeback in the fifth. Junior Cole Martin (Bay City, Mich./John Glenn) reached on an infield single to lead off the inning. Senior Patrick Biondi (Woodhaven, Mich./Divine Child) walked, putting runners on first and second. Freshman Travis Maezes (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) brought both runners home on a double to the gap in right. Classmate Jacob Cronenworth (St. Clair, Mich./St. Clair) then tripled to left to score Maezes, making the score 5-3 Boilermakers.

The Boilers scored a run in the sixth, but another big inning by the Maize and Blue in the seventh gave U-M the lead. Freshman Eric Jacobson (Chicago, Ill./St. Ignatius) reached on an error to lead off the inning. A Biondi sacrifice bunt moved Jacobson to second. He then went to third on an O'Neill single. Maezes brought in a run on a groundout and Cronenworth singled up the middle to score O'Neill and make it 6-5 Purdue. A bad-hop single by sophomore Zach Zott (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion) was followed by a two-run double down the right-field line by classmate Kevin White (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's-Belfield), giving the Wolverines their first lead of the game at 7-6. Sophomore Kyle Jusick (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) made it 8-6 with a single up the middle that scored White.

O'Neill had three of Michigan's 13 hits on the night to lead U-M, while Maezes drove in three runs. Cronenworth and White had two RBI apiece. Sophomore Matt Ogden (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill) picked up his sixth win of the season, striking out a batter and not allowing a hit in 1.2 innings of relief.

Michigan and Purdue continue the three-game Big Ten series Saturday afternoon (May 11) at 4:05 p.m. at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium.
