LINCOLN, Neb. -- Facing a must-win situation to get into the 2013 Big Ten Tournament, the University of Michigan baseball team put up season highs in runs and hits in a 19-9 win at Nebraska on Saturday afternoon (May 18) at Haymarket Park. The Wolverines had 23 hits, 22 of them singles, and batted around in three separate innings.

With the win, Michigan is the sixth seed in the Big Ten Tournament and will play third-seeded Nebraska Wednesday afternoon (May 22) at 3:35 p.m. CDT at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minn., the home of the Minnesota Twins.

Michigan scored three runs in the top of the first. Senior Patrick Biondi (Woodhaven, Mich./Divine Child) hit the first pitch of the game for a single to left. Biondi moved to third on a single by junior Michael O'Neill (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) and scored on freshman Travis Maezes' (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) sacrifice fly. Freshman Jacob Cronenworth (St. Clair, Mich./St. Clair) was hit by a pitch, which brought up sophomore Zach Zott (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion), who singled to left to score O'Neill. Cronenworth stole third and scored on sacrifice fly to right by sophomore Kyle Jusick (Portage, Mich./Portage Central).

Michigan scored a run in the top of the second. Senior/junior John DiLaura (Clinton Twp., Mich./Warren DeLa Salle) reached on a bad-hop single to lead off the frame. He went to second on a wild pitch and scored on Maezes' single to right. Nebraska tied the game with four runs in the third, but the Maize and Blue came back with a six-run frame in the fifth. Zott was hit by a pitch with one out. He went to third on a single from sophomore Kevin White (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's-Belfield) and scored as Jusick's grounder to short was thrown away at second base. Singles from junior Cole Martin (Bay City, Mich./John Glenn) and DiLaura gave Michigan a 6-4 lead. Biondi and O'Neill followed with run-scoring singles, and Maezes drove in a pair of runs with a single to right, giving U-M a 10-4 lead.

After sending 10 men to the plate in the fifth, Michigan did the same in the sixth, scoring four times. The first two Wolverines were retired, but a Jusick single and walk to Martin put runners on first and second. DiLaura then had his third hit of the day to score sophomore pinch runner Donnie Eaton (Ann Arbor, Mich./Father Gabriel Richard). Biondi's infield single scored Martin, and a single by Maezes brought in DiLaura. Cronenworth brought in the final run with a bases-loaded walk, giving U-M a 14-5 lead.

Michigan added five runs in the eighth inning, highlighted by a Cronenworth two-run double to make it 19-5. Nebraska scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth, but sophomore James Bourque (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) got Jake Placzek to fly out to end the game.

Maezes went 4-for-5 with five runs batted in. Martin also had four hits, while DiLaura and Biondi added three hits and three RBI apiece. O'Neill had three hits and two runs scored.

Sophomore Matt Ogden (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill) earned his eighth win of the season, allowing four hits and an unearned run with four strikeouts in 5.1 innings pitched.
