ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan baseball team's pitching staff recorded 18 strikeouts and the Wolverines scored a pair of runs in three separate innings to defeat the Ontario Blue Jays, 6-4, in a 14-inning fall exhibition at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium. The Blue Jays scored the game's first run in the fourth, but Michigan answered with a two-out rally in the bottom of the sixth. Senior Coley Crank (Pinole, Calif./Pinole Valley) singled to center with two away. He went to second as classmate John Lorenz (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln Way-East) reached on a Blue Jay error. Senior/junior Kevin Krantz (Traverse City, Mich./Central) pinch ran for Crank and both Wolverines on base moved up on a wild pitch. Krantz scored on a wild pitch and Lorenz gave U-M the lead on a passed ball.
Ontario retook the lead in the seventh with two runs, but the Maize and Blue scored a pair in the bottom of the frame. Freshman Kevin White (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's-Belfield) led off the inning with a single. He stole second and scored on a single from junior Patrick Biondi (Woodhaven, Mich./Divine Child), who stole two bases and scored on a wild pitch. Michigan plated the final two runs in the 11th as Krantz doubled home White and freshman Dylan Delaney (Woodland Hills, Calif./Chaminade).
Senior Brandon Sinnery (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Academy) started for Michigan and struck out five and allowed just one hit three innings of work. Michigan used six pitchers on the night, with senior/junior Bobby Brosnahan (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) and sophomore Alex Lakatos (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central) going three innings apiece. Lakatos struck out six and Brosnahan had a pair of punchouts.
Junior Ben Ballantine (Napa, Calif./Napa) earned the win for Michigan, striking out a batter in two innings of work. Senior Kevin Vangheluwe (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeshore) pitched two innings of scoreless relief and junior/sophomore Logan McAnallen (DeWitt, Mich./DeWitt) earned the save, striking out a pair.
Biondi had two hits and a run batted in for Michigan, while Krantz drove in a pair and White had two runs scored. For Ontario, Kyle Hann, Jason Freeman and James Park had two hits apiece.
Michigan will have its annual Scout Day/Parent Day game this Sunday (Oct. 16) at 11 a.m. at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium.
