YPSILANTI, Mich. -- Freshman Trey Miller's (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Catholic) two-run single in the bottom of the eighth capped a three-run inning, helping the Maize team to a 3-2 win over Blue in game three of the Maize and Blue World Series Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 30) at Oestrike Stadium on the campus of Eastern Michigan University. The Maize team won the series by taking two of three games against the Blue squad.

The Maize team trailed 2-0 after freshman Carmen Benedetti's (Grosse Pointe, Mich./South) run-scoring single in the sixth and a wild pitch in the seventh that scored freshman Keith Lehmann (Western Spring, Ill./Lyons Township). Sophomore Travis Maezes (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) started the eighth with a double to left. After a groundout moved Maezes to third, junior Kevin White (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's-Belfield) brought him in with a double to right. Freshman Jackson Lamb (Temperance, Mich./Bedford) and junior Dominic Jamett (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./University Liggett) both were hit by pitches, loading the bases. A great barehanded play by Lehmann and nice block from freshman Harrison Wenson (Farmington Hills, Mich./U of D Jesuit) got the force at home for the second out, and Miller's single through the right side gave the Maize team the lead in the game and the series.

Miller, Maezes, Lamb and junior Kyle Jusick (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) had two hits apiece for the Maize team. Junior Zach Zott (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion) had a double for the Blue.

Lamb earned the win in relief after pitching two scoreless innings. Freshman Mac Lozer (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) and sophomore Evan Hill (Mt. Pleasant, Mich./Mt. Pleasant) struck out three apiece for Maize, while sophomore/freshman Cam Wysocki (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Northern) had four strikeouts in 4.1 innings for Blue.

The Michigan baseball team now turns its attention to the offseason and the start of the 2014 campaign. Michigan will open the season on Friday, Feb. 14, at the Texas State Tournament in San Marcos, Texas. The Wolverines face host Texas State at 3:30 p.m. CDT.
