ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan baseball team begins its team practice for the 2014 campaign on Friday afternoon (Jan. 24), just three weeks before opening day on Friday, Feb. 14, at Texas State. Friday is the mandatory start date for NCAA Division I baseball after the Wolverines were able to work in groups of four since the start of the winter semester.
"Getting back into our routine of consistent team practices is extremely important since we are three weeks from opening day," head coach Erik Bakich said. "Team 148 has made significant improvements since the fall and we are looking forward to competing for championships this season.
"There is a lot of excitement within the baseball program, especially with all the awesome facility upgrades," Bakich continued. "There will be a lot of energy at Fisher Stadium this spring, and we hope to have capacity crowds for all our home games."
The Maize and Blue will scrimmage all three days this weekend, starting with a three-inning scrimmage on Friday.
The Wolverines travel to San Marcos, Texas, for the Texas State Tournament Feb. 14-16. Michigan opens by facing the host Texas State Bobcats Friday afternoon (Feb. 14) at 3:30 p.m. CST.
