PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- For the second time this season, University of Michigan freshman left-handed pitcher Evan Hill (Mt. Pleasant, Mich./Mt. Pleasant) has been named the Big Ten Conference Baseball Freshman of the Week, it was announced today (Monday, March 25). Hill earned the honor after his performance in Michigan's 6-1 win over Western Illinois on March 23.
Hill had his best outing of the season in the Wolverines' win over WIU. Hill allowed just one hit in the seven-inning, complete-game victory and struck out seven Leathernecks to improve to 3-1 on the year. Hill's only hit allowed was a bloop double in the fifth. He faced the minimum through four innings and had four 1-2-3 frames. Hill also lowered his season ERA to 2.21.
Hill also earned the honor on March 4 after an 11-0 shutout win over Saint Louis on March 2. In other conference awards, Ohio State's Kirby Pellant was named the Big Ten Player of the Week, while Michigan State's Chase Rihtarchik earned Pitcher of the Week accolades.
Michigan will host in-state foe Western Michigan this Wednesday (March 26) at 4:05 p.m. at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium.
