PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- For the third time this season, University of Michigan freshman left-handed pitcher Evan Hill (Mt. Pleasant, Mich./Mt. Pleasant) has been named the Big Ten Conference's Baseball Freshman of the Week, it was announced today (Monday, April 8). Hill shares the weekly honor with Northwestern's Zach Jones after earning the award on March 4 and March 25.
Hill had another outstanding performance in Michigan's 5-1 win over Michigan State on Saturday. He allowed just one unearned run, while striking out four in a career-long eight innings of work. Hill induced 11 flyouts on the day and helped the Wolverines to a three-game sweep of the Spartans. On the season, Hill is 5-1 with a 1.74 earned-run average.
In other conference awards, Northwestern's Jake Straub was named the Player of the Week and Minnesota's DJ Snelton earned Pitcher of the Week honors.
Michigan will travel to South Bend, Ind., for a Tuesday (April 9) game with Notre Dame. First pitch is set for 5:35 p.m.
