PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- University of Michigan freshman infielder Travis Maezes (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) has been named the Big Ten Conference's Baseball Freshman of the Week, it was announced this afternoon (Monday, April 15). The award marks Michigan's fourth Freshman of the Week honor this season.
Maezes hit .467 with a .529 on-base percentage in four U-M wins this week. The Ann Arbor native opened the week by going 1-for-4 in a 4-1 win over Notre Dame (April 9). Maezes scored the game-winning run in Friday's (April 12) 5-1 win over Penn State, and then proceeded to have six hits in the final two games of the series. He was 3-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base in Saturday's (April 13) 3-2 win. Maezes then was 3-for-4 with four runs scored, a walk and a stolen base in the 8-1 win on Sunday (April 14). On the year, Maezes is hitting .308 with 22 RBI.
Maezes joins fellow freshman Evan Hill (Mt. Pleasant, Mich./Mt. Pleasant) in earning the weekly honor. Hill won the Freshman of the Week award on March 4, March 25 and April 8.
In other conference awards, Illinois' Justin Parr was named the Player of the Week and Michigan State's Andrew Waszak and Ohio State's Brian King shared Pitcher of the Week honors.
Michigan continues its five-game homestand this Tuesday (April 16) against Notre Dame. First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium.
