ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan senior right-handed pitcher Brandon Sinnery (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Academy) was named the Big Ten Conference's Baseball Pitcher of the Week, the league announced this afternoon (Monday, May 7). It is Michigan's first Pitcher of the Week honor this season and the second in Sinnery's U-M career.

Sinnery was outstanding in Michigan's 11-0 win over Iowa Friday night (May 4). The senior pitched his third complete game of the season, tying a season high with eight strikeouts while walking only one batter, which happened in the ninth inning. He allowed just two Hawkeyes to reach third base and pitched 1-2-3 innings in the fourth, fifth and sixth frames. Sinnery ended five of the nine innings on strikeouts, including one looking with the bases loaded in the ninth to end the game and preserve the shutout. Sinnery, who allowed just one extra-base hit, has had a part in both shutouts for the Wolverines this season as he pitched 8.1 innings in the 4-0 win over Michigan State on April 6.

Sinnery also earned Big Ten Pitcher of the Week on April 18, 2011, after pitching a complete-game shutout against Illinois on April 17, 2011. That also was the last complete-game shutout by a Wolverine pitcher before Friday's performance.

Sinnery was joined in the weekly honors by Purdue's David Miller (Player of the Week), Indiana's Sam Travis and Michigan State's Jimmy Pickens (Co-Freshmen of the Week).

Michigan will host Coastal Carolina this Tuesday (May 8) at 7 p.m. at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium. The game will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
