PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- University of Michigan freshman infielder Travis Maezes (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) has been named the Big Ten Conference's Baseball Freshman of the Week, it was announced this afternoon (Tuesday, May 7). Maezes earns his second Freshman of the Week honor this season, while U-M garners its fifth frosh award.
Maezes batted .500 with a double, a home run, four RBI and a .833 slugging percentage in the three-game series against Iowa. Maezes had just one hit in the series opener, but it was a home run in the third inning in Michigan's 5-4 win. He also drove in a run on a bases-loaded walk. He had two hits and two RBI in Saturday's game and was 3-for-4 with a double in the series finale, a 4-3 win. On the season, Maezes is hitting .305 and that average moves to .414 in Big Ten games.
Maezes also earned the award on April 15. He joins fellow freshman Evan Hill (Mt. Pleasant, Mich./Mt. Pleasant)in earning the weekly honor. Hill won the Freshman of the Week award on March 4, March 25 and April 8.
In other conference awards, Michigan State's Joel Fisher was named the Player of the Week, while Northwestern's Luke Farrell earned Pitcher of the Week honors.
Michigan continues its eight-game homestand this Tuesday night (May 7) against Eastern Michigan in a completion of a suspended game from April 17. EMU leads Michigan 4-1 with one out in the bottom of the third inning.
