GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Four members of the University of Michigan baseball team garnered ABCA/Rawlings All-Mideast Region honors, it was announced Thursday (June 15). Junior pitcher Oliver Jaskie was a first team selection, while sophomore second baseman Ako Thomas, senior shortstop Michael Brdar and senior pitcher Jackson Lamb earned spots on the second team.
A native of Ada, Michigan, Jaskie tossed a team-high 93 innings through 16 starts as a junior this spring. He allowed just 83 hits while holding opposing hitters to a .234 average and posting a 3.82 earned run average. An All-Big Ten Conference first team selection, he earned two National Player of the Week and three Big Ten Conference Player of the Week recognitions during the 2017 campaign.
Despite missing three weeks of the season due to injury, Thomas finished the year with a Big Ten-leading .354 batting average while also leading the Wolverines with a .462 on-base percentage. The Chicago, Illinois, native was an All-Big Ten first team selection and ended the season with just one error at second base, posting a .994 fielding percentage.
Brdar was an All-Big Ten first team selection in 2017. The De La Salle, California, native posted a .310 batting average in 2017 with a team-leading 75 hits to go with 37 RBI and 16 extra-base hits. Brdar was a force on defense for the Wolverines with a .988 fielding percentage and just three errors.
A native of Temperance, Michigan, Lamb was the only reliever named to the All-Big Ten first team in 2017, and he finished the year with a 0.96 earned run average through 26 appearances. The senior righty surrendered just five hits on the season through 28 innings pitched and ended the year with three wins and a program-record 12 saves.
Michigan capped off its 2017 season with a trip to the NCAA North Carolina Regional after capturing the program's first at-large regional bid since 2007. With 42 victories and a top-25 ranking during the regular season, the Maize and Blue earned a program-best eight All-Big Ten selections and led the Big Ten in numerous statistical categories, including ERA, on-base percentage and fielding percentage.
