ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan head baseball coach Rich Maloney announced that Matt Miller (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville HS) has signed with the Wolverines to play in the 2008 season.

Miller, a right-handed pitcher, was the eighth player signed by Maloney for the 2008 class. He will join the class of seven players signed in the early signing period last November.

The 6-6, hard-throwing Miller helped lead the Zionsville Eagles to a 19-13 record in 2007. He pitched a two-hitter in the sectional championship win over Ben Davis HS. Zionsville then lost a 1-0 decision to Kokomo in the regional opener to close its season. Miller started that game at first base and tossed three hitless innings of relief to finish the game.

Miller played two seasons of varsity baseball for Coach Daryl Osborne. Miller also was a first team All-Hoosier Crossroads Conference basketball player and team MVP as a senior for Coach Shawn Busick.

Miller is the eighth member of the signing class that also includes (in alphabetical order): OF Bryce Aspinwall (Sharpsburg, Ga./Woodward Academy), C/RHP Tyler Burgoon (Defiance, Ohio/Defiance), OF Ryan LaMarre (Jackson, Mich./Lumen Christi), Catcher Jake McLouth (Whitehall, Mich./Whitehall/Grand Rapids CC), RHP Travis Smith (Austin, Tex./Stephen F. Austin HS), IF Garrett Stephens (Davison, Mich./Davison HS) and RHP Kolby Wood (Berrien Springs, Mich./Berrien Springs).

"I'm really excited about our fifth group of incoming players, as we added the eighth player in pitcher Matt Miller from Indiana," said Maloney. "We expect several of these players to have an impact and the entire group should blend well with our returning nucleus for next season."
