DURHAM, N.C. -- University of Michigan baseball player Jacob Cronenworth (St. Clair, Mich./St. Clair) has been selected to the Baseball America Freshman All-America first team, the organization announced Monday afternoon (July 1).
Cronenworth, who also was named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American and earned first team Freshman All-America honors from the National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), hit .330 with 12 doubles, two triples, two home runs and 41 runs batted in for the Wolverines. Cronenworth also was the team's closer, as he had seven saves and a 1.93 earned run average with 24 strikeouts in 23.1 innings pitched. He earned All-Big Ten second team honors at third base and was named to the league's All-Freshman team. Cronenworth had a 16-game hitting streak during the season and had 17 multi-hit games and 10 multi-RBI performances.
Cronenworth becomes the fourth Wolverine to be selected as a first-team member and the first Baseball America Freshman All-American since 2006 when Zach Putnam and Adam Abraham were named to the first team and Chris Fetter was a second team selection.
Michigan finished the season with a 29-27 overall record and went 14-10 in Big Ten play. The Wolverines finished tied for fifth in the Big Ten standings and advanced to the six-team Big Ten Tournament for the first time since the 2010 season.
