ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan baseball program and head coach Erik Bakich have announced the recruiting class for the 2013-14 academic year today (Wednesday, July 31). The Wolverines have 15 incoming recruits -- 13 freshmen and two junior college transfers. The Maize and Blue also had four signees selected in the 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft in June.
Joining the Maize and Blue for the 2013-14 season are Brett Adcock (Kawkawlin, Mich./Bay City Western), Carmen Benedetti (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich./Grosse Pointe South), Ethan Cohen (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Keystone Academy), Jackson Glines (Coarsegold, Calif./Fresno City College), Hector Gutierrez (Detroit, Mich./Western), Nick Kowalczuk (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest), Jackson Lamb (Temperance, Mich./Bedford), Keith Lehmann (Western Springs, Ill./Lyons Township), Mac Lozer (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central), Trey Miller (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Catholic), Kendall Patrick (Mitchell, S.D./Blackhawk C.C.), Ramsey Romano (El Cajon, Calif./Valhalla), TJ Shook (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./U of D Jesuit), Johnny Slater (Southfield, Mich./Southfield Lathrup) and Harrison Wenson (Farmington Hills, Mich./U of D Jesuit).
"Our recruiting coordinator, Nick Schnabel, along with pitching coach Sean Kenny and our entire coaching staff did an incredible job putting together one of the elite recruiting classes in the nation,"Bakich said. Michigan finished the 2013 season with a 29-27 overall record and went 14-10 in Big Ten play. The Wolverines finished tied for fifth in the Big Ten standings and advanced to the six-team Big Ten Tournament for the first time since the 2010 season.

Was 12-0 with a 0.58 earned-run average and 124 strikeouts in 72 innings pitched his senior year at Bay City Western High School in Auburn, Mich. ... Earned All-State honors and was named to the Bay City Baseball Dream Team ... Also earned All-Saginaw Valley League first team honors as well as all-district and all-region accolades ... Helped Bay City Western to a Division I state title in 2013 ... Was a three-time all-conference selection and two time all-district and all-region honoree ... Also wrestled and played freshman football at Bay City Western ... Plays summer baseball for Midwest Elite ... Also played for the Novi Bulls and the Saginaw Means ... Has an honors grade-point average and was part of Health Occupation Students of America at Bay City Western.
Carmen Benedetti - IF/LHP - Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./Grosse Pointe South
Hit .500 with six home runs and 33 RBI's for Grosse Pointe South his senior season ... Is a three-time All-State first team selection ... Was named the 2013 MHSBCA Co-Mr. Baseball ... Won four district championships while at Grosse Pointe South ... Was a 2013 Louisville Slugger All-America first team selection as well as a preseason honoree ... A two-time captain at Grosse Pointe South ... Played in the 2013 MHSBCA East/West All-Star Game at Comerica Park ... A three-time All-District, All-Macomb Area Conference, All-Region and Dream Team selection ... Broke Grosse Pointe South' single-season records for batting average (.557), hits (54), RBI's (49) and doubles (17) ... Is South's career leader in batting average (.492), hits (174), doubles (42), home runs (22), RBI's (143) and walks (88) ... Played summer baseball for Underwood Orr, the Ann Arbor Travelers and South Farmington Blues ... Played in the Perfect Game WWBA Under-16 National Championship in Georgia in 2011 ... Ethan Cohen - OF - Thousand Oaks, Calif./Keystone Academy
Played in the Perfect Game Nationals in 2012 ... Was a Perfect Game All-California Region second team selection in 2013 ... Also was a third team Perfect Game Underclass All-American honoree ... Played for the ABD Bulldogs from 2011-13 ... Was enrolled in junior college classes throughout high school ... Graduated high school in three years.
Jackson Glines - OF - Coarsegold, Calif./Fresno City College
Played two seasons at Fresno City College, earning Most Valuable Player of the Central Valley Conference his sophomore season ... Hit .374 with four home runs, 29 RBI's and 49 runs scored in 2013 ... Was a NorCal All-American after his 2013 campaign ... Earned first team all-CVC honors his freshman year after hitting .393 for the Rams ... Was a two-time all-North Sequoia League honoree at Yosemite High School in Oakhurst, Calif. ... Was injured playing football his senior year and did not play baseball ... Hit .430 his sophomore season ... Also played basketball at Yosemite ... Played summer baseball for the Clovis Reds and the Cal Blaze ... Made the honor roll all four years of high school.
Hector Gutierrez - IF/RHP - Detroit, Mich./Western
Was a two-time all-state selection at Western International High School in Detroit, Mich. ... Was a four-time all-city honoree and three-time all-district team member ... Was ranked seventh in the state by MichiganBaseballProspects.com ... Struck out 18 in a win over Detroit King his senior year ... Helped Western advance to the state quarterfinals his sophomore season ... Played summer baseball for the Allen Park Jaguars, the Detroit Drive and Agreen Baseball ... Nick Kowalczuk - IF - Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest
Was a four-year letterwinner at Oak Park-River Forest High School in Oak Park, Ill. ... Was the Oak Park-River Forest Male Athlete of the Year in 2013 ... Named to the Chicago Sun Times All-Area first team ... Helped the Huskies to four regional championships and a 4A state championship his junior season ... Kendall Patrick - C - Mitchell, S.D./Blackhawk C.C.
Hit .390 with 15 doubles, seven home runs and 43 RBI's for Black Hawk College in Moline, Ill., in 2013 ... Was named the Arrowhead Conference Most Valuable Player and was an All-Region second team selection at catcher ... Redshirted in 2012, but played his freshman season in 2011, hitting .425 with 11 doubles and helping Black Hawk to a 44-9 record and a high of No. 3 in the NJCAA Division II rankings ... Was a NJCAA All-America third team selection in 2011 as well as earning all-conference and all-region honors ... Named an All-State first team selection at Mitchell High School in Mitchell, S.D., his senior season in 2010 ... Also was named to the All-Region 3A first team ... Ramsey Romano - IF - El Cajon, Calif./Valhalla
