The Maize team scored a run in the bottom of the third on a single from junior Cole Martin (Bay City, Mich./John Glenn) that plated senior Patrick Biondi (Woodhaven, Mich./Divine Child). The sixth-run fourth inning started with a walk to sophomore Kevin White (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's-Belfield). Sophomore Mike Dolloff (Davison, Mich./Davison) made it 3-0 and he scored off a rundown between first and second from sophomore Zach Zott (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion). Biondi singled and senior/junior John DiLaura (Clinton Twp., Mich./Warren DeLa Salle) reached on interference, putting runners at the corners. Martin walked and freshman Matthew Dacey (Wyckoff, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) brought in two runs with a single down the right-field line. Martin ended the scoring by trotting home on a sacrifice fly from sophomore Dylan Delaney (Woodland Hills, Calif./Chaminade).

The Blue team was held scoreless until the top of the ninth. Junior Michael O'Neill (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) walked to lead off the frame. He moved to second on a single by freshman Jacob Cronenworth (St. Clair, Mich./St. Clair) and scored on a single to left from junior Brett Winger (Orlando, Fla./Olympia). A wild pitch scored Cronenworth and Winger came on a run-scoring groundout from freshman Jack Sexton (Goldens Bridge, N.Y./Fordham Prep).

Martin and Biondi had two hits apiece, while Biondi stole a pair of bases. Five different Wolverines had a hit apiece for the Blue team.

On the mound, senior/junior Logan McAnallen (Dewitt, Mich./Dewitt) made the start for Maize and allowed one hit in three innings of work. Freshman Daniel McKinney (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green) pitched four hitless innings, allowing just a walk in the sixth. Senior Kyle Clark (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) allowed a hit and struck out a batter in 2 2/3 innings for the Blue team.

The Maize and Blue World Series will continue Friday afternoon (Oct. 19) with game two at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium. First pitch is at 4 p.m. and it will be a seven-inning contest.
