Wolverines Add Delaney, White to This Year's Signing Class

Nov. 18, 2010

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan head baseball coach Rich Maloney announced Thursday (Nov.18) the addition of IF Dylan Delaney (Woodland Hills, Calif./Chaminade Prep) and C Kevin White (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's-Belfield) to this year's signing class.

"Both of these players help solidify what we felt was a strong class," Maloney stated. "Both kids are very gritty. We wanted gamers and that was an emphasis in the recruiting process. Coach Matt Husted, our recruiting coordinator and Coach Matt White have put in a great effort to solidify this class. It's been a good feeling to see it come together."

Delaney was a First Team All-CIF Mission League selection his junior season at Chaminade College Preparatory High School in West Hills, Calif. He hit .534 with 20 doubles, four triples, five home runs and drove in 31 runs for Chaminade his junior year. He also earned All-CIF Southern Section Division 2 Second Team honors in 2010 and was named the team's best offensive player. He has played for several travel league teams, including the Conejo Oaks Connie Mack squad in 2010 and Cubs and Orioles scout team and the So Cal Cardinals scout team in 2008 and 2009. An outstanding student, Delaney has a 4.26 grade-point-average, four semesters of highest honors and two semesters of Laureate honors (4.0 or higher with all A's). He also is on the National Honor Society and was a Scholar-Athlete for baseball and football.

"Dylan is a middle infielder who has good actions on the infield," Maloney said. "He has a solid bat, is good line drive gap hitter and is a very gritty player."

White was named to the All-State first team both his sophomore and junior season at St. Anne's -- Belfield High School in Charlottesville, Va. White helped St. Anne's -- Belfield to a Virginia Private League championship in 2010 and also is a three-time All-VPL honoree, hitting .465 with 11 home runs his junior season. He has the school record for home runs in a game, in a season and in a career. White was named the fourth-best prospect in the state of Virginia and the 142nd best prospect in the country by Perfect Game. He is a three-time first team All-Central Virginia honoree and has attended the Perfect Game showcase at the AFLAC All-American Game as well as numerous World Wood Bat Association (WWBA) National Championships.

"Kevin is very physical," the head coach stated. "He played in the East Coast Professional Showcase. He played at a high level in summer baseball so he's traveled all around playing. He has power; he runs well, has a strong arm and was very highly recruited. We're just elated to have him join us. I think he has a great future ahead of him."

Delaney and White join RHP Mike Dolloff (Davison, Mich./Davison), OF Will Drake (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield), RHP Ryan Gallagher (Boardman, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney), RHP Matthew Ogden (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill) and LHP Trent Szkutnik (Temperance, Mich./Bedford) as U-M signees in the early signing period.
