ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The Michigan Baseball Winter Camps are scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 4, at Oosterbaan Fieldhouse on the University of Michgian campus. The four camps are scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. and are open for ages 14 to seniors heading into their 2012 season.
The day begins with separate pitching and catching camps from 8:30-11 a.m. Pitching coach Steve Merriman will direct the pitching camp, covering drills and instruction on creating an efficient delivery, proper throwing mechanics, upper and lower body drills, and pitchers' fielding techniques. Assistant coach Matt Husted will direct the catching camp, which includes instruction on various drills to improve catching skills. This includes cover stance, blocking and receiving, throwing to bases, fielding bunts, plays at the plate, and catcher popups.
The hitting camp will occur from noon-2:45 p.m. and include complete instruction focusing on proper techniques and fundamentals. Each player will receive individual instruction and ample hitting time to enhance hitting ability using various drills and hitting equipment.
The day concludes with an infield camp from 3:30-6 p.m. Head coach Rich Maloney will direct this camp which will cover all aspects of playing the infield, including ready stance, slow rollers, tags, double plays, throwing techniques, and basic infield fundamentals.
The cost of each camp is $100. There are discounted prices offered for individuals who sign up for two sessions ($160) or three sessions ($250).
Camp check-in will begin one hour prior to the start of a camper's first session.
