ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's basketball team set a school record with 16 three-pointers in a 91-60 win over Eastern Michigan on Saturday afternoon (Dec. 13) at Crisler Arena. Sophomore guard Manny Harris (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Redford) led the way for the Wolverines with a game-high 22 points, a team-best seven rebounds and a game-high five assists.

U-M head coach John Beilein was unable to coach the contest due to an acute peripheral vertigo stemming from an inner ear infection. U-M physicians will continue to monitor his status on a day-to-day basis before he will be able to return to the team. Associate coach Jerry Dunn served as acting head coach in today's game.

Eastern Michigan jumped out to an early 6-0 lead before U-M responded with a 7-0 run to take its first lead of the contest, capped by senior forward Jevohn Shepherd's (Toronto, Ontario/West Hill Collegiate) triple from the corner off a feed from Harris.

Trailing by as much as seven in the opening 20 minutes, sophomore guard Kelvin Grady(Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) and fifth-year senior guard C.J. Lee(Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sunderland) came off the bench to provide a spark for the Wolverines. Grady hit a trio of trifectas and Lee added a pair of his own to tie the score, 30-30, with 4:14 remaining in the half.

The second three-pointer from Lee ignited a 17-4 run for U-M that ended with a buzzer-beater three by fifth-year senior David Merritt (West Bloomfield, Mich./West Bloomfield HS), giving the Wolverines a 44-34 lead at the break. Shepherd scored a career-best 13, all in the first half, and Grady added 11. Brandon Bowdry scored 10 to lead Eastern Michigan in the first half.

Michigan built upon its lead coming out of the intermission, pushing its advantage to 59-42 at the 14:45 mark as Harris scored 11 consecutive points for the Maize and Blue. U-M outscored the Eagles 32-18 from there to earn the blow out victory.

Junior forward DeShawn Sims(Detroit, Mich./Detroit Pershing) scored 18 for the Wolverines, while Bowdry led the way with 16 points for Eastern Michigan.

Michigan returns to action next Saturday (Dec. 20) when it travels to The Palace of Auburn Hills to take on Oakland University. Game time between the Wolverines and Golden Grizzles is scheduled for 4 p.m.
