PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- University of Michigan men's basketball junior guard Tim Hardaway Jr. (Miami, Fla./Palmetto Senior HS) was named the Big Ten's Player of the Week today (Monday, Jan. 21) by the conference office. It marks the second conference accolade this season for Hardaway and third of his career.
In U-M's only game of the week, Hardaway guided the Wolverines to an 83-75 road win over No. 9 Minnesota as he scored 21 points, going 7-for-8 from the field and 4-for-5 from long range. He added five rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks in 37 minutes of action.
Hardaway keyed a Wolverines first half run with 17 points as U-M took the lead, which it never relinquished. The win marked the fourth straight triumph for the Maize and Blue at Williams Arena. The victory was also U-M's first road win over a top-10 team since 1996 when U-M defeated No. 10 Duke, 62-61, at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
For the season, Hardaway is averaging career best for points (16.4), rebounds (5.4), assists (2.6), field goal percentage (48.5) and three-point field goal percentage (39.3). He has scored in double figures in 14 games this season with five 20-plus point outings.
Overall, U-M has nine conference accolades this season. Along with Hardaway's two Player of the Week honors, Trey Burke (Columbus, Ohio/Northland HS) has two to his credit, while Nik Stauskas (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada/St. Mark's School [Mass.]) has three Freshman of the Week awards and Glenn Robinson III (St. John, Ind./Lake Central HS) and Mitch McGary (Chesterton, Ind./Brewster Academy) each have one.
