2003-04 BKM vs. Wisconsin -- Postgame Quotes

Michigan Head Coach Tommy Amaker

Opening statement ... "I certainly thought that we played efficiently against a team that is one of the best in the country and has been one of the tops in our conference over that past few seasons. I thought Bernard Robinson's play inspired us to get this win. He is our catalyst. His play got us out of the blocks early and the team fed off his energy and continued to play strong all game.

On Chris Hunter ... "Chris has given us some great minutes. He has moved himself back into the rotation. He is playing with a chip on his shoulder because he had some injuries and now he is playing very hungry."

On getting the ball into the post ... "I thought our ball movement was great. We got some great post touches. Our guys are getting more confident. We wanted to get them into foul trouble down low without having to get to three-point line. Courtney, Graham, Brent and Chris played very well down there for us."

On the team's performance ... "I felt like we were ready to play. We are fairly confident in our play at home. I feel our kids have a great frame of mind. We are playing in the moment and not looking ahead in the schedule with needing wins and such."

On Bernard Robinson Jr.'s injury ... "I think he is going to be O.K. He took a shot to the head, and he was a little woozy but I feel that he will be ready to go on Tuesday."

On Bernard's play this afternoon ... "He has been solid and been consistent. I was pleased that he was the leader of our charge today, because he has been the leader of this team all year."

U-M Sophomore Lester Abram

On the game ... "I think we played as a team today. We executed our offense, moved well without the ball, found open spots in the defense and finished. We also shot a good percentage from the free throw line."

On his overall performance ... "I just went out there and found open spots. Coach wanted us to spread the ball around to start it up a little bit and get the defense on their heels."

U-M Sophomore Graham Brown

On the win ... "This win is going to help us out by giving us more confidence. We need to do whatever we can to get a few more wins. This win against a ranked team is going to help us out."

On playing with composure ... "We played as a team today, like a family and that's one of the biggest parts of our win today. You can't really ask much more from our guys. Our guys played their heart's out and we did everything we could to get the win."

U-M Freshman Courtney Sims

On interior play of the team ... "We focused on getting the ball down low and converting. Graham (Brown) made shots, Brent (Petway) and Chris (Hunter) played excellent. All of our big men were playing well and we had to take advantage of that."

On upcoming game against Michigan State ... "It's going to be tough but if we play the way we did today, we have a good chance. We just have to play smart."

Wisconsin Head Coach Bo Ryan

On the Michigan zone defense ... "I thought we did a good job attacking it. We had trouble with their length and quickness. When they went into zone at our place we he some shots. There were some things in the game that I liked but they beat us inside. They are long and they kept bringing them off the bench. If they were not long they had a 45-inch vertical. That is where they beat us, in the post. Of course the foul trouble didn't help us."

On the Big Ten Conference race ... "We just play. We don't worry about the standings. We are just going to get ready for our next game and try to take care of business there."

On Bernard Robinson Jr. ... "He really hurt us down that stretch when they went on that big run there. He really made a statement for his team and I am sure that Tommy (Amaker) is happy with him for that."

Wisconsin Junior Devin Harris

On the game ... "At home they're very good. We knew some of the things that they did well and we didn't stop them. I give them a lot of credit, they beat us up on the boards and they just did a great job."

On Michigan's balanced attack ... "We knew they had great perimeter players but they set out to get the ball inside and they got us in foul trouble. They did a great job of taking care of what they set out to do."
