ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's basketball head coach John Beilein will serve as an assistant coach for the 2013 USA Basketball Men's World University Games Team alongside head coach Bob McKillop (Davidson College) and assistant coach Frank Martin (South Carolina).
"I am honored to have been selected to be an assistant coach for USA Basketball this summer at the World University Games," said Beilein. "I look forward to working with head coach Bob McKillop and Frank Martin in our quest for a gold medal. It is a great opportunity to grow as a coach while also representing the United States of America."
Held every other year, the 2013 World University Games is scheduled to be played July 7-16 in Kazan, Russia. Organized by the International University Sports Federation (FISU), the World University Games is a multi-sport competition open to men and women who are between the ages of 17 and 24, and are or have been within the past year a student at a college or university.
Training camp to select the 12-member team will be held June 24-July 1 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. The final team selection will be determined prior to the team departing for Russia. The list of invitees will be announced later this spring.
Beilein served previously as a court coach during a USA Basketball training camp and assisted during the 2009 USA Men's U19 World Championship and USA World University Games training camps.
