ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Three members of the University of Michigan men's basketball program -- fifth-year senior J.C. Mathis (Brooklyn, N.Y./John F. Kennedy HS), senior Dani Wohl (West Bloomfield, Mich./West Bloomfield HS) and sophomore John Andrews (West Bloomfield, Mich./Orchard Lake St. Mary's) -- were all named to the Academic All-Big Ten Conference team. All three Wolverines will also be honored with U-M's Athletic Academic Achievement Award, Monday (April 11) in a ceremony on campus.

"Balancing academics and athletics is always a priority here at Michigan," said U-M coach Tommy Amaker. "These three young men have continued to excel on and off the court. We are extremely pleased to see them being recognized for their accomplishments."

Mathis, who earned his second academic conference award, earned his undergraduate degree from Michigan in sports management and communications last August and is completing work on his master's degree in sports management. In his final season in Ann Arbor, Mathis played in 20 games and averaged 1.8 points, 2.1 rebounds in 8.4 minutes per game.

Wohl, who is a two-time winner of the U-M Bodnar Award for Academic Achievement, is expecting to graduate this spring with a degree in sports management and communication. In his final season with the Maize and Blue, Wohl played in 17 games, with five starts. Filling in for several injured Wolverines, he averaged 0.7 points, 1.1 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 0.8 steals in 14.8 minutes a game.

Andrews, who has applied to U-M's prestigious Stephen M. Ross School of Business, set career highs in virtually every statistical category this season. In his second season, he played in 28 games, with nine starts, while averaging 3.3 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 17.1 minutes per game.

Since Amaker's arrival in 2001-02, nine players have been named to the Academic All-Big Ten team and 13 have earned U-M Athletic Academic Achievement Awards. If Andrews is accepted into the U-M Business School, the Wolverines will have two players enrolled; junior Chris Hunter (Gary, Ind./West Side HS) was accepted in the fall of 2004.
